A scheme management service is available in all our schemes with back up emergency services provided by our out of hours call centres. The manager on duty is the first point of contact for advice and assistance. The scheme management duties include:
- Providing professional quality support services to help older people to live independently, within sheltered housing
- Liaising with agencies to ensure appropriate co-ordinated care and support is delivered to our residents to help independent living
- Promote and enable social and leisure activities within the scheme for both residents and other older people living in the local neighbourhood
- Effectively manage the sheltered housing service and strengthen its role within the wider community care context
- Help to provide extra support and personal care through liaison with voluntary and statutory agencies
This is achieved by:
- Making daily contact with all the residents;
- Offering a wide range of advice and housing related support
- Providing help in an emergency
- Looking after the building and shared areas
- Encouraging residents social activities
- Working closely with care providers to meet personal care needs of tenants
- Supervising all services on the scheme such as cleaning, gardening, meals and maintenance
- Dealing with all reported repair items
- Maintaining a file of information on each resident as this is needed to ensure there is a quick and efficient response to any emergency.
- Being responsible for the completion of all the paperwork and administration associated with the running of the scheme
- Taking responsibility for the safety of residents.
Whilst the scheme manager is available to support residents, they will also encourage residents to look after themselves and lead active and independent lives. The scheme management team are not available to provide any nursing care or carry out domestic duties except as may be necessary when coping with an emergency.
Scheme management staff are normally on duty:
8.00am - 4.00pm Monday - Friday
Please note that scheme manager's duty time will be shown on the notice board as not all scheme managers cover the office for the full day.
If the permanent staff are absent for any reason, residents will be told of the local arrangements, which may include relief staff or monitoring by the emergency alarm system.
Emergency alarm system
Each flat is fitted with pull cords, which are connected to the alarm system so that a resident can get help. The scheme manager is able to hear and speak to residents over this system. The alarm system will be tested regularly to ensure it is operating satisfactorily. Tenants are advised not to tie up the pull cords on the assumption they will not need it.
